The Bongers 40 is a South African designed and built cruiser/racer. The hull is a stretched version of the original Dudley Dix hull design, the Bongers 39.  The Bongers 39 was designed and built for the Bongers family to enter into the first Cape to Rio race in 1971.  With its 13’ beam, a deep fin keel and spade rudder her hull shape affords a desirable blend of seaworthiness and performance similar to the early S&S designed Swans. Impressive construction practices utilizing solid fiberglass layups in the hull and deck, bruynzeel plywood bulkheading and panels, hardwood interior joinerwork and high quality fastenings, fittings and equipment combine to bring forth the benefits of a custom built yacht that was not part of a mass production,cost sensitive boat builders efforts to attract market share. Accommodations

Entering from the companionway, to port you will find the entrance to the aft cabin, which features a spacious double berth with plenty of storage, headroom and portlights for airflow and light. To Starboard, lies the nav station and and aft berth. 

Forward, another bulkhead creates the living quarters, with a large head to starboard a U-shaped galley to port. The galley features a double stainless steel sink, propane two burner stove on a gimbal and a large refrigerator.  

Moving forward, two single settees located on opposite sides of the folding dinette table. The keel stepped mast is set through the middle.  The portside also features a raised bunk, which is nice when you need extra crew for long distance cruising or racing.

The forward cabin features a vee berth forward, with plenty of storage, drawers to starboard and a sink with a seat to port.
